Our Amazing Race - Valentine's Edition!

This year for Valentine's Day I wanted to do something creative and special for my Honey Bunches of Oats.
Kendra, a friend of mine from AZ did this awesome Amazing Race for her hubby with about a half-dozen of her friends and was my inspiration for our first ever

AMAZING RACE -GEOCACHE
VALENTINE'S EDITION!

We recruited a "host" to lure our boys to a "service project" at our church and once everyone arrived and the 15 minute project was done...BAA-ZINGA!!! He confiscated their wallets and $ and sent them on their way with their first clue, a gps, video cameras, totally sexy t-shirts and a bag of coins (mostly pennies) totaling five bucks... oh, and the

RULES:
1. You must wear your uniform at all times
2. You must make a video of the events and each member of the team must be in the video.
3. You must have completed all the clues and the following tasks in order to win:
* purchase a gift for your wife using only the funds provided
* acquire a bouquet of flowers for your wife, without spending any money.

They were given a clue with GPS coordinates to their first location... the public library.

They each had to buy a book from the Friends of the Library cart...
a book that they believed their wife would enjoy.

The coordinates for the next location were taped to the donation box.

{favorite quote taken from the video...}
Kris, while holding up this book says,
" How to end your marriage by giving your wife this book!"

The next stop was the park, for the swinging contest.
The loser was required to run through the park
declaring his love for his wife.
coordinates to the next location were included

Paul nearly falls off!

and the loser is...

Next stop was an ice cream shop where the guys had to
SING FOR THEIR ICE CREAM.

They sang, "I'm a Little Teapot"
H.I.L.A.R.I.O.U.S.!

and then the car battery died.
4 large men and 1 small man
shoved into a Hyundai Elantra - is it any wonder?

The ice cream scooper lady had to help them jump start the car.
sweet.

They waited till the end to figure out how to make a bouquet of flowers and ended up cutting up their clues into flowers and sticking them to tootsie pops that Kris had at his house. Michael managed to cut himself in the process. Kris avoided the scissors all together and used cupcake liners instead.

Our gracious "host" met the guys just outside my house and verified that they had completed all their tasks:

Congratulations! You have completed the Amazing Valentine's Day Race! You are the first team to arrive! (albeit, the ONLY team... but whatever!) As winner of the race you each get the grand prize! A dream date with your lovely, adoring, beautiful, smart, sexy and talented wives.
Congratulations!

We were wearing coordinating t-shirts that said:
"I love my husband" on the front,
with personalized messages on the back.

We had a Salad Bar and Lasagna Dinner
Texas Sheet Cake, Soft Serve Vanilla Ice Cream and Eclairs for Dessert.

And of course we all gathered to watch the video.

We had games to play but never got to them
- the video was entertainment enough!

It was a lot of work, especially keeping it secret, but sooo worth it!
We all had such a great time!

The guys have made many comments about paybacks and retribution
- I can't wait!

Come back later for video clips and the recipe for the Texas Sheet Cake
... if Sara Lyn let's me have it! LOL!

ps. for those unfamiliar with what geocaching is, go to geocaching.com.
We used this term very loosely, but you'll get the idea.

Amanda's turned out so cute last year that we just had to do it again this year!

Reason #293 why I love this kid.

So I'm working in the office and down the stairs comes Amanda...in this...and asks, "is this how you're suppose to wear this?"

I couldn't help but laugh and then chase her up the stairs with my camera. After much protesting she finally conceded to "just ONE" picture.

1st person to guess correctly what this is she is wearing gets a secret PRIZE to be determined sometime later. My brain is too fried to figure out something creative right at this moment...

Why I Love My Little Family

I can't imagine what my life would be like if I didn't have my Honey Bunches of Frick'in Oats, my Chicken Butt, and my Little Gremlin (formerly known as Little Man and WMD).

I love HBFO because he still thinks he's like, 19. He loves hiking and nature and football and shares all of this with his kids. I love that even when he's exhausted from work he will still give me a nice back rub before bedtime no matter what. I love that he eats my weird dinners all gone, even when they suck. I love how sweet and patient he becomes with our Little Gremlin right when I am about to lose mine. I love that he loves his job and wants to share his day with me. I love him even though the man can drop 13 lbs. in 3 days just by getting sick. - That's just not fair.

I love my CB because she is the sweetest big sister her little brother could ever ask for. Every once in a while she'll just say out of the blue, "Mom? I'm so lucky to have a little brother. Hayden is so sweet...I love him!" It just melts my heart. I hope they stay this close as they grow up. I love that she is nice to everyone, especially the underdogs. She's the best friend anyone could have. I love her artwork and creativity. Give the girl a box full of art supplies and she's the happiest girl in town! I love CB because she doesn't care what others think about her. She dances like no one is watching - ALL THE TIME. She is brave and smart and drop dead gorgeous. I can say that - I'm her mother.

I love my LG more than I ever thought a person could love someone. He is a total cuddle worm and I love it - except when I've got to go pee and he's clinging onto my leg. He doesn't just smile for anyone but when that boy smiles, it brightens up a whole city block! He saves his biggest, brightest smiles for when daddy walks in the door. This makes daddy so happy, so it makes me happy too! I love him because he was an answer to my prayers. I love that when he sleeps with us I wake to him staring at me and making little puffing sounds, as opposed to the face slaps and nose pulls of the past. I love that he already knows the value of the remote control and seeks possession of it all times. He is my sweet, curious, little weapon of mass destruction, recently promoted to gremlin and I am smitten.
